Carving Light with Porcelain: Master Class in Hotarude
with Taruta Hiroshi 樽田裕史
10-11th / 12-13th June 2023
In this two-day workshop, Taruta will teach his unique techniques of wheel throwing, trimming, and “Hotarude”(蛍手). We will learn the basic knowledge of porcelain and the tips to handle this difficult material. He will also shine a light on one of Japan's six most important ancient kiln towns - “Seto”, the ceramics town he is based in.
Taruta Hiroshi’s ceramics combine what he finds beautiful, such as the heavenly white of porcelain clay, the soft blue of porcelain glaze, and the shadows created by carving. You will be able to learn the philosophy behind through this workshop.
